El director español Pedro Aguilera nos perturbó con su ópera prima titulada La influencia, un desgarrador drama con pocos diálogos y planos largos y contemplativos, acerca de la degeneración física y moral de una madre y el abandono gradual al que somete a sus hijos. Luego, en Naufragio, su segunda película, invirtió la historia de Robinson Crusoe y Viernes, en un interesante y provocador ejercicio formal.

Ahora Aguilera regresa ocho años después con Demonios tus ojos, un trabajo incómodo, chocante y dislocador, que recurre al tema que Sófocles convirtió en una tragedia inmortal y que luego Freud utilizaría para explicar las relaciones de pareja: el incesto.

La cinta, que cuenta con un encuadre claustrofóbico de 1:33 (característico de la televisión del siglo XX y de la primera mitad de la historia del cine), es protagonizada por el actor Julio Perillán quien encarna a Oliver, un director de cine radicado en Los Ángeles con una novia emocionalmente inestable, quien por accidente descubre un vídeo pornográfico protagonizado por su media hermana Aurora, interpretada por Ivana Baquero.

El vídeo despierta el deseo de Oliver, quien viaja a España para visitar a Aurora, la cual vive con su madre y se encuentra estudiando para poder acceder a una beca universitaria en Colombia. En una de sus visitas, Oliver coloca una cámara oculta en el cuarto de Aurora y en un acto que parece extraído de una película de Hitchcock o de Polanski, invade la intimidad de su hermana menor, obteniendo una serie de imágenes en movimiento que muestran menos de lo que deberían mostrar, pero que aumentan la fijación erótica y las ansias de poder del director de cine por la joven incauta.

Demonios tus ojos toma como recurso el tabú del incesto y muestra cómo el acceso a una imagen prohibida lleva a la transgresión, al despertar del deseo sexual y al ansia de poder de un hombre que viene de una profesión en donde se acostumbra a someter a sus actores y actrices a desnudar su cuerpo y su alma. El director incluye en su película escenas de la infame Holocausto Caníbal de Ruggero Deodato, cinta que vendió unas imágenes violentas extremas como si fueran parte de un documental para apelar al morbo del espectador, y música post-punk de The Seeds, Psychedelic Furs o The Fall, para darle una atmósfera oscura y marginal a su trabajo, que lo conecta con esa obra maestra del cine indie español llamada Arrebato y con la banda española de los años ochenta liderada por Javier Corcobado que le da título a la película

Así como la actriz infantil Ana Torrent interptretó en El espíritu de la colmena a una niña obsesionada con las imágenes cinematográficas del monstruo de Frankenstein, que abren el portal a un mundo de fantasías, para luego encontrarla años después interpretando a una mujer inmersa en el mundo de las imágenes violentas que capturan asesinatos reales en Tesis; encontramos aquí a Ivana Baquero, despojándose de su aire infantil y de inocencia de su personaje de El laberinto del fauno, para encarnar a una mujer sexuada inmersa en un juego perverso del cual ella también se convierte en cómplice.

Al igual que con las películas del mexicano Carlos Reygadas (con el que Aguilera colaboró en sus inicios), Demonios tus ojos es un trabajo que genera una intensa sensación de incomodidad y desarmonía en el espectador. Terry Gilliam, en su introducción para el DVD de su trabajo Tideland (una cinta transgresora que explora el delicado tema del abuso sexual infantil), enfatiza que la suya no es una buena película. La película de Aguilera tampoco lo es, en el sentido que no ofrece entretenimiento.
